Description Dar Il-Ħanin Samaritan is a Conference Centre and Meditation Garden on the island of Malta commissioned by the Society of Christian Doctrine founded by Malta’s first Saint George Preca. Designed by architect Richard England, the complex is conceived as an oasis of peace, a magical realm almost Piranesian in scale and ambition. This publication captures the serene and dream like qualities of the complex in a superb collection of daylight and night-time photographs. These are further enhanced by critical essays by Charles Knevitt, former architecture correspondent of The Sunday Telegraph and The Times and ex-Director of the Royal Institute of British Architects Trust and architect and historian Conrad Thake, associate professor at the Faculty of History of Art at the University of Malta. MY ULTIMATE AIM WAS TO PRODUCE A SERIES OF SILENT SPACES WHERE ONE CAN PURSUE QUIESCENT DREAMS IN BORROWED TIME, A THEATRE FOR THE SOUL RATHER THAN A STAGE FOR THE BODY; A LOCUS DESIGNED TO TRANSCEND AND ENCHANT RICHARD ENGLAND
